This clapboard construction, hidden inside a roadside garden centre, is just a stone’s throw from junction 20 of the M5. Step inside and you’re in a chilled-out oasis, enveloped in the comforting aromas of old-fashioned home cooking.
Nestled between the greenhouses and polytunnels, the Food Hut is decked out with mismatched furniture and fairy lights. There is a selection of snacks and filled baguettes (including warm salt beef or blue cheese and pear), but the daily specials board, containing eight or nine dishes, is what draws the many regulars. Bring your own wine or choose from the wide selection of nonalcoholic drinks.
The Food Hut is shut on Mondays, takes strictly cash and cheques only and is becoming such a hit with locals that you’d be best advised to book.
