Ruf CTR3
Price £300,000 approx
On sale in UK Summer
What’s different? It looks like a Porsche Cayman gone mad; it is in fact a 911 gone very, very bad. Ruf, the German tuning firm, has clothed a 911 in a Kevlar, carbon and aluminium body and modified its flat-six motor so it develops 700bhp. Ruf says it will go from 0-62mph in 3.2sec and reach 235mph. A racing-type sequential six-speed gearbox is standard
Why should I care? Ruf is perhaps the best known and most highly respected Porsche tuning company. The appeal of the CTR3 is its looks and speed, and it is based on a Porsche platform, with all that implies for longevity, safety and structural integrity

What’s different? Only now that the Cooper and Cooper S versions of the all-new Mini are established does the entry-level Mini One come along. It costs £1,400 less than a Cooper but has 95bhp instead of 120bhp and, as a result, rather pedestrian acceleration
Why should I care? You probably shouldn’t unless you have to have a Mini and cannot afford a Cooper. The Cooper is not only much quicker, it’s also better value. Alloy wheels and an alarm — which will cost more than £500 on the Mini One — are standard
