As Sven Goran-Eriksson continues to maintain a dignified silence on rumours of his impending dismissal from Manchester City, the club has confirmed he is to meet with Thaksin Shinawatra, the club's controversial owner.
The Swede may have been pondering his next step in football after being told he was not the man to take the City forward, but he arrived in Bangkok yesterday to lead the club's promotional tour of South-East Asia. Eriksson predictably offered a "no comment" on whether he would meet the former Thai Prime Minister to discuss the situation, although Paul Tyrrell, City's director of communication, hinted a meeting would take place.
"I think there's probably an opportunity for him to meet Dr Thaksin here in Bangkok before we go to Hong Kong," Tyrrell said. "But with regards to the manager's position, we are making no official comment. We've made no official comment apart from saying that there will be a review held at the end of the season."
Thaksin has announced plans to conduct a full review of the club, after becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the second half of the season, which resulted in a ninth-placed finish in the Barclays Premier League.
Tyrell added: "That meeting will be part of a performance review into the whole of the club, which the chairman called for a number of weeks ago."
Eriksson did not speak to the media on his arrival in Thailand and Tyrell confirmed that had been at the manager's discretion.
"The manager asked during this time of great forensic analysis of the football club for the players not to be doing interviews and not to be answering questions from the media," Tyrrell added.
Following Saturday's match in Bangkok, City will travel to the nearby resort of Pattaya before moving on to Hong Kong next Tuesday for the second leg of their trip.

Sven is the best thing to happen to the club for a long time and he should be allowed to continue. It would be crazy to sack Sven as there is no one better available to replace him and the club needs consistency.
Paul Finnigan, Preesall, England
Sven must stay at Manchester City or next season we'll be fighting relegation again. Sven needs a minimum of three seasons at the club, he is the best thing to happen to City in a very long time.
